HOLE 1
Mr. Bates’ design gets your immediate attention on the first tee box. Don’t let the OB on the right or the penalty area on the left distract you on this opening dog leg. Put your focus on a well struck shot that ends up short of the fairway bunker for a short approach to a well-guarded green. Pro’s tip: Long bombers try to drive this green by going over the trees for an early eagle opportunity.

Don’t let this “little” par 3 fool you, make note of the slight downhill slope and account for the wind before you choose your club. The lake is certainly a challenge, but going over this green can be equally challenging as well…choose your club wisely. Pro’s tip: Note the ridge that divides this long, but shallow green and hit your shot accordingly. Know that a long putt over the ridge will certainly test your speed control with the flat stick early in the round.

HOLE 3
Another great/risk reward hole, this dogleg is challenged by the long hitters that choose to drop a bomb over the fairway bunker but beware of the OB on the left side. A tee shot up the right side of the fairway allows you to mitigate the ash tree in front of the green and attack any flag, no matter the location. Pro’s tip: Almost every putt on this green breaks towards the front middle of the green.

HOLE 4
The signature hole on the front nine. OB left and right challenge you off the tee and a forced carry over the lake on the approach shot are causes for large numbers on this hole to be commonplace. Judge the wind correctly and make a confident swing to hit this green. Pro’s tip: Don’t forget Mr. Nicklaus’ tip about putts breaking towards water, it certainly applies here

HOLE 5
Bombs away on the first par 5 on the course. The sidewalk is OB right and the penalty area on the left should get your attention, but eagles are not made by being cautious! The uphill approach makes it difficult to hit the elevated green and avoid the greenside bunkers at all cost. Pro’s tip: Notice and plan for the OB that is very close to the right side of the fairway on a layup shot near the 100 yard marker.

As if the hole isn’t difficult enough with a pond and bunkers in front and the right side of the green, make sure the prevailing wind isn’t blowing in your face before you choose your club. Pro’s tip: Allow for more break when the flag is on the front left of this green, as it has more slope than appears

HOLE 7
If Mr. Bates’ design hasn’t got your attention yet, welcome to number 7. A three shot par 5 for the mere mortal, but a person who puts a mighty lash on a fairway wood can get to this green in two shots. The creek is the great equalizer on this hole, as you must account for it on every shot. Pro’s tip: Hit your layup shot the correct distance to ensure avoiding the bunkers on the approach

HOLE 8
Those who play here often have felt the teeth of this difficult par 4. Beware of the OB on the right and the penalty area on the left. The long hitters must pay attention to their club selection on the tee box, as the fairway shrinks as your ball goes beyond 150 yard marker. The bunkers and the elevated green will test your ball striking abilities on the approach shot to this back-to-front sloping green. Pro’s tip: Avoid the left side of the fairway on the tee shot, as the penalty area gathers drives that draw/hook too much(right handed golfer) and overhanging trees block the approach shot

HOLE 9
Your tee shot is challenged by OB right and a large bunker on the left, but make no mistake, your score on this hole is determined by your approach shot. Distance control on the approach is mandatory as this green is severely sloped from back-to-front. Pro’s tip: Hit your drive close to the cart path, as this hole is always cart path only.

HOLE 10
You have played the front, now let the FUN begin. Our signature hole is a par 5 with water all down the right side of the hole. A good drive puts you in play for the ultimate risk/reward shot that can set you up for an eagle opportunity if you can hold the heavily protected green. Pro’s tip: If you hit a good drive and are confident in your wedge game, GO FOR IT. Even if you hit the shot in the water, drop, hit a wedge close and make your par putt. (The risk is worth the reward!)

HOLE 11
Approach this hole with caution as this large fairway gives golfers a false sense of security, as you must be cognizant of the OB on the left and the right of the fairway. Shots can easily go over this green when golfers do not account for the downhill/downwind(typically) approach. Pro’s tip: A well struck drive down the right side of the fairway can hit the “speed slot” and add tremendous distance to your drive.

HOLE 12
The tee shot on this hole is simple. Hit. It. Straight. OB and penalty areas line both sides of this uphill par 4 that can certainly test your mental fortitude and cost you a very high score. This difficult tee shot is followed by an uphill approach shot to the most difficult green on the golf course. Pro’s Tip: Error towards the right side of the green on the approach, as a shot left of the green causes for an almost certain bogey.

HOLE 13
A difficult dog leg par 4 that has a peculiar little creek running along the left side of the fairway. The conservative golfer hits a tee ball at the fairway bunker in the distance, leaving a long approach shot. The aggressive golfer drives over the creek which leaves a short approach for a chance at a birdie. Pro’s Tip: Evaluate how you have hit your driver up to this point in the round. Dropping bombs today? Go for it! Not hitting it your best? Take the sensible route.

This par 3 is heavily guarded by a large hill on the left and a creek that collects any shot just missed to the right. This long green will allow for a mistake with club selection, but the hill and creek demand your accuracy with the direction. Pro’s tip: Do not “quit” on this tee shot as the creek LOVES a quitter.

HOLE 15
One of the best holes on the course and another test of your shot making abilities. A conservative golfer will hit a tee shot just short of the fairway bunker in the distance, leaving around 140 yards for the approach shot. The aggressive golfer will bomb a drive up and over the trees to the 100 yard marker. No matter the route you take, take note of and plan for the two lakes on the right side of the fairway. This amazingly shallow green is very difficult to hit, even with a short club in your hand. Pro’s tip: If your drive leaves you with a difficult approach, aim your approach left of the green to avoid the water and take your chances at getting up and down for par.

HOLE 16
The best “little hole” around. This demanding par 3 will test your focus and your confidence as you must control your distance and direction on this shot. Just like hole 14, the water is waiting to collect any shots right of the green, yet the hill on the left side of the green will cause for an almost certain bogey. Pro’s tip: “Knockdown” this tee shot to help keep the ball out of the wind, thus helping control your distance. If a “knockdown” shot is not your forte, this is NOT the time to try it.

HOLE 17
The last of the par fives, a good drive on the right side of the fairway will give long hitters the best chance to get to the green in two shots. Not a bomber? Make sure your second shot is passed the trees on the left for a clear shot to the green on your third shot. Regardless, you should account for the ponds in front of the green waiting to soak any errant shots. Pro’s Tip: Focus on the roof in the distance for a good aiming point on the tee box.

Make sure your drive is far enough to the right to avoid the large lake on the left side of the fairway, that cannot be seen from the tee box. Make sure the approach shot is on the correct plateau on this green, as a putt up or down the undulation is a difficult two-putt. Pro’s Tip: Make sure your club choice for the approach accounts for the prevailing wind that makes this hole play longer than the yardage.
